Quality Grades of Loose Moissanite Stone
It is difficult to distinguish moissanite from diamond by naked eyes. Moissanite is a perfect substitute for diamond. There is 4Cs grading system to describe and classify diamonds: Carat Weight, Color, Clarity and Cut. The value of a finished moissanite is based on this combination.
1. Carat Weight
The size of moissanite is measured by its diameter. Because moissanite and diamond have similar specific gravity, the weight of moissanite is a small different with diamond.
2. Color
Starting from D color, desending order, 11 levels color are available, DEF are colorless.
3. Clarity
There is inclusion in the moissanite rough and finished stones are divided into different grades under strict quality standards, only a few moissanite can reach VVS clarity.
4. Cut
The angles and proportions of our moissanite cutting are calculated by precise calculations to create a high quality moissanite refractive index.
Difference of Loose Moissanite Stone and Diamond
1. Price: Moissanite stones have nearly identical physical properties to diamonds, but the price of moissanite is only 1/10 that of diamonds.
2. Refractive index: The refractive index of moissanite is 2.4 times that of diamond, and moissanite shows a colorful fire color and is unchanged.
3. Hardness: Moissanite is the second hardest gemstone in the world with a Mohs hardness of 9.25, while diamond is the hardest gemstone in the world with a Mohs hardness of 10.
4. Inclusions: Natural diamonds have their own unique natural content and external characteristics. Moissanite has naturally occurring needle-like inclusions because moissanite is formed in a special laboratory to simulate the high temperatures generated when a meteorite hits the earth’s surface.
5. Specific gravity: The specific gravity of diamond is 3.52, while the specific gravity of moissanite is 3.20.
6. Refraction: Due to the different crystal structures, the refraction of diamonds is single refraction, while moissanite stones are birefringent. Therefore, the fire color of moissanite is more brilliant than that of diamonds.
7. Gloss: Mossan’s luster and brightness will never fade over time and produce black spots or discoloration. Moissan’s brilliant fire can be permanently preserved and unchanged. Diamonds become dark due to stains when it worn for a long time.
8. Color: The color of synthetic moissanite is mostly I or below I color level, and some moissanites have a light green hue, which indicates that the appearance of moissanite is not exactly the same as that of diamond.
9. Cutting: Most of the moissanites have a relatively rounded and blunt edge, which is completely different from diamonds with sharp edges.
10. Polishing pattern: The polishing pattern of the moissanite waist is parallel to each other, which is completely different from the diamond. And because of the differences in different directions, the polishing direction of the diamond is constantly adjusted during the polishing process, and the moissanite can be polished in the same direction. This is especially obvious between adjacent facets.
